Chernomortransneft performed in-line inspection of the underwater crossing of Tikhoretsk - Novorossiysk-3 oil pipeline

Date of publication: 13 July 2017 Print

A set of works on in-line inspection of the underwater crossing of Tikhoretsk - Novorossiysk-3 oil trunk pipeline (OTP) across the river Beysug in the area of responsibility of Tikhoretsk Regional Oil Trunk Pipeline Directorate (TROTPD) of Chernomortransneft was finished.

The inspection was conducted in accordance with the programme of diagnostic inspection of pipelines and facilities of oil pump stations (OPS) of Chernomortransneft OTP for 2017. The specialists of Transneft Diascan performed diagnostics of an underwater crossing’s section with the length of 2.5 km.

The diagnostic inspection was performed using a pipeline inspection gadget (PIG) - CMD (combined magnetic defectoscope). This gadget, including magnetic and ultrasonic sections, allows obtaining the fullest information on the trunk pipelines’ technical condition. The defectoscope’s work is based on using circumferential magnetization, which allows detecting not only pipe wall defects, but also defects of welded joints and internal and external metal losses. A technical report on possible defects and the periods of their elimination will be received following the results of the in-line inspection of Tikhoretsk - Novorossiysk-3 OTP across the river Beysug.

The planned works on inspection of the oil trunk pipeline’s technical condition secure reliable oil transportation with observing the safety rules. Detecting defects allows timely fulfilling the requirements of the technical upgrading, revamping and overhaul (TUR&OH) programmes of the enterprise’s facilities.
