Chernomortransneft has completed repairs on the standby leg of the Kugo-Eya River underwater crossing in Krasnodar Territory.
The standby leg of the underwater crossing ensures continuous transportation of crude oil in case the main section of the Lisichansk – Tikhoretsk-1,2 OTP crossing fails.
The repairs were carried out during a planned shutdown of the OTP.
At the preparatory stage, a trench was developed in the river floodplain, 281 cubic meters of crude oil was pumped from the section with a defect into special tanks.
At the main stage, the section with a defect with a total length of 42 meters was cut out. The cutting was carried out simultaneously by three pipe-cutting machines. Then a new section was welded into the pipe. After the welding and installation works were completed and inspection showed positive results, crude oil was injected back into the standby leg section of the Lisichansk – Tikhoretsk-1,2 OTPUWC.
25 employees of emergency operation divisions of the Tikhoretsk Regional Oil Trunk Pipeline Directorate were involved in the repairs, and so were 5 construction and special-purpose vehicles.
The set of implemented measures is aimed at increasing the operational reliability of the standby leg of the oil trunk pipeline underwater crossing, as well as at ensuring a high level of industrial and ecological safety.
